New England, 1975. BOBBY SCHEINMAN is an insurance salesman whose career is on the slide. With his position in jeopardy and his wife yearning for a better life, Bobby is looking for a shortcut to the American dream. It looks like that just might happen when he meets IRVING and VINCENT, two apparently wealthy businessmen. Vincent expresses interest in a "Key Man policy", insuring his business against a loss of profits arising from the death of him or his business partner Charles. Vincent claims to need the policy as collateral for a loan to buy the Boston Red Sox. There’s only one hitch: the policy needs to be signed by both business owners, something Vincent is keen to avoid. Seduced by Vincent’s lavish lifestyle, Bobby offers to draft the fraudulent key man policy. When Bobby discovers that Irving is a murderous gangster and that Vincent and Charles are former lovers he realizes that Vincent plans to kill Charles and collect on the policy himself. Scared for his family, Bobby makes a desperate attempt to outwit the men, but events take a deadly turn for the worse.
